The Golden Gate is Las Vegas' oldest hotel, and the smallest hotel on Fremont Street with only 106 rooms. When the hotel first opened in 1906, at the dusty corner of Fremont Street and Main, 'Where Las Vegas Started, these lodgings provided a much needed respite for weary travelers and adventurers. Today, guests can enjoy the intimate atmosphere of a "bed & breakfast," then step out the front door into the grandeur and excitement of the Fremont Street Experience.
Recently declared "Las Vegas' Most Historical Hotel," the hotel exterior has been restored and its restaurant the Bay City Diner was renovated to capture the look and feel of 1930 San Francisco. The casino offers a full range of gaming activities, more than 400 slot machines, live keno, blackjack, craps, roulette and more.
When the Golden Gate introduced shrimp cocktail to the casino scene in 1959, it started a Las Vegas tradition. The San Francisco Shrimp Bar & Deli has been remodeled in tribute to its legendary shrimp cocktail (voted "Best of Las Vegas year after year), with a taste of old San Francisco. To date, "the Golden Gate has sold over 25 million shrimp cocktails."
