On August 31,1946, the Golden Nugget opened its doors to wide acclaim in the gritty frontier settlement known as Las Vegas. Five decades later, the Golden Nugget has under-gone a transformation as remarkable as the one that changed this small community of 20,000 people into the world's most popular resort destination.
"Fifty years ago (in 1996) the Golden Nugget began operation as the largest and most luxurious casino in town,'' said Barry Shier, the resort's president." Today, the Golden Nugget continues to captivate guests with its warmth, charm and superior service.
Strictly a gambling hall in those early years, the Golden Nugget exhibited an elegance absent from other downtown casinos with its imported marble floors and crystal chandeliers.
The Golden Nugget's evolution from a gambling hall into a luxury destination resort began, however, when a new management team, headed by entrepreneur Stephen A Wynn, took control of the company in 1973.
Wynn and his team transformed the Golden Nugget into downtown Las Vegas' first premier resort. Offering three hotel towers with a combined total of 1,907 deluxe rooms and luxurious suites, a lavish spa and salon and award-winning restaurants, the Golden Nugget set a new standard for resort development in Las Vegas.
In recognition of its excellent amenities and exceptional service, the property has received the Mobil "Four Star" award and the AAA "Four-Diamond" award for 12 and 19 consecutive years, respectively.
The Golden Nugget recently was instrumental in repositioning downtown Las Vegas once again. In conjunction with local casino owners and the City of Las Vegas, the Golden Nugget pioneered the concept of creating an impressive entertainment extravaganza on Fremont Street. The $70 million Fremont Street Experience, a four-block long pedestrian walkway covered by a spectacular space frame, completely transformed the Fremont Street environment. This promenade features a celestial vault 90 feet in height, equipped with 2.1 million computer programmed lights and more than 540,000 watts of stereophonic sound, making it one of the most electrifying entertainment destinations in America.

Golden Nugget details
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 1996, the Golden Nugget is the only first-class, Mobil, Four Star, AAA Four Diamond destination resort in downtown Las Vegas. Situated in the heart of world famous Casino Drive Center, the Golden Nugget is within walking distance of other downtown casinos and a five minute drive from the Strip.
The Golden Nugget's three towers have 1,907 rooms including one- and two-bedroom suites, 27 luxury apartments in the Spa Suite Tower and six Penthouse Suites in the North Tower.
The original Victorian design of the Casino has endured for half a century offering guests 24-hour enjoyment of virtually every casino game available.
Palm trees, exotic sculpture and a computerized misting system surround the swimming pool and outdoor whirlpool spa area, creating a cool, tropical atmosphere.
Nestled within the Spa Tower is the Grand Court, which leads to the luxury personal services offered by the Golden Nugget including The Spa, The Beauty Salon and The Fitness Center.

In keeping with the Las Vegas tradition, the Golden Nugget offers both fine and family dining with five specialized restaurants, from the elegance of Lillie Langtry's to the comfort of The Buffet.
Twelve meeting and banquet rooms totaling 25,000-square-feet can accommodate virtually any event, from a personal staff meeting to a gala celebration.
On display at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas is "The Hand of Faith," the largest single nugget of gold in the world weighing a massive 61 pounds, 11 ounces (875 troy ounces). A second nugget weighing 13 pounds (189 troy ounces) and a treasury of 26 smaller pieces of gold are also on display.
Exterior The gleaming gold and white design of the Golden Nugget has brought a distinctive elegance to downtown Las Vegas. Tiny white lights and elegant canopies grace the perimeter of the building, and palm trees sway along the white granite and brass inlaid sidewalk, setting the Golden Nugget apart from the flashy neon tubes of surrounding properties.

Interior The gentle glow in the main registration lobby comes from the crystal chandeliers that hang above floors of imported marble and custom-designed carpet. Hand-engraved glass doors and polished brass banisters at the entryway contribute to the European elegance of the Golden Nugget.
Hotel Features
Rooms: The decor of all of the guestrooms re-emphasize the Golden Nugget's commitment to providing guests with the most comfortable, elegant accommodations possible. Custom-designed, richly furnished suites and spectacular apartment-style Penthouse Suites are featured in the North Tower. The Spa Tower, with its own private elevators, has six levels of lavish one- and two-story suites conceived as personal pieds-a-terre. Each floor in each tower has a room equipped with facilities for the handicapped.
Guest Services: The Golden Nugget strives to fulfill all guests' needs by providing them with various hotel services including valet parking, a concierge VIP desk, same day laundry and dry cleaning service, wake- up call service, safe deposit boxes, fax service, cable TV, golf and tennis arrangements, foreign language assistance, transfer arrangements, theme parties and gaming guides.
Restaurants: At the Golden Nugget, guests may savor fine dining in the Italian countryside of Stefano 's or delight in the creations of the gourmet chefs at Lillie Langtry's. Family dining may be enjoyed in the fun and lively atmosphere of the California Pizza Kitchen, at the sidewalk cafe environment of the Carson Street Cafe, or in the warmth and intimacy of The Buffet. In addition, there is a snack bar in the casino area and 24-hour room service.
Entertainment: The Theatre Ballroom has been closed.
Pool: The entrance to the swimming pool and outdoor whirlpool spa is graced with elegant marble swans and fanciful bronze fish sculptures. Palm trees, verdant landscaping, and a computerized misting system contribute to the tropical atmosphere of the Golden Nugget pool terrace.
The Grand Court: To relax the body and the soul, The Spa at the Golden Nugget has His and Her spas, each equipped with massage rooms, steam rooms, a tanning room and a grand whirlpool spa. Guests may also be pampered at The Beauty Salon with professional hair care, facials, manicures and pedicures. The Fitness Center has two rooms full of cardiovascular equipment and Universal and Nautilus equipment for a complete physical work-out.
Casino: From its original status as a 5,000 square foot "Gambling Hall," the Golden Nugget has grown into a 36,000-square-foot casino that offers a wealth of space in which guests may play their favorite casino games. Blackjack, craps, Baccarat, roulette, Pai Cow, Pai Cow Poker, slot machines, video poker, keno and the Race and Sports Book provide 24-hour gaming entertainment in the Victorian designed casino.

California Pizza Kitchen - Featuring 28 varieties of wood-fired gourmet pizzas plus delectable pastas, grilled items, garden fresh salads and specialty sandwiches. Open: Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Open Friday and Saturday, 11. a.m. to midnight.
Carson Street Cafe - Dine in a European sidewalk cafe where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served 24-hours. Also try late-night breakfast specials for $3.50 between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., except Wednesday. Open 24-hours daily.
Meeting and Banquet Facilities: With 12 rooms totaling 25,000 square feet, the Golden Nugget convention area can accommodate a small business meeting of five people or a grand party of 500. Two of the banquet rooms overlook the tropical pool area providing a spectacular backdrop for almost any occasion.
