Micro-Brewery opens at Colorado Belle Hotel Casino

It's official, Laughlin's first-ever micro-brewery is open. Desert dust be damned; the beer, is here!

The Boiler Room Brew Pub, a multi-million dollar expansion to the Colorado Belle Hotel Casino opened on July 2, 1997 to the clanging of chilled mugs, the ring of video poker machines, and smells of grilled food and mesquite. Located on the casino level, the "Boiler Room" is a fully operational brewery, with an annual capacity of 155,000 gallons. It adds about 5,000 square-feet to the casino, with seating for 280.

The boiler room theme is prevalent throughout the new brewery with huge copper tanks and brewing kettles, and a decor reminiscent of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The "Boiler Room" Brew Pub is home to the newest entertainment stage in Laughlin. "Southern Spirits," a recently formed group of veteran Las Vegas entertainers including Levi Walton Presley, T.J. Duncan and Steve Gerrard, will perform six nights a week.

"Southern Spirits" venue includes hits from the 50's, 60's, rhythm and blues, classic rock, and easy listening. As always, Colorado Belle entertainers are presented free-of-charge. In addition to live music, the Boiler Room is home to a digital audio-visual satellite system and 25 viewing screens. The brewery's venue will include "Football Heaven" with Monday Night Football events beginning in September. The premise of the heavenly promotion is the best of professional football set amidst a brewery, open-pit kitchen, a stock of fine cigars and NFL sideline seats via satellite.

The Boiler Room's "open-pit" kitchen is a rarity in Laughlin. The pub's restaurant features wood- fired ovens and open mesquite grilling. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, with specialties including Italian pies from wood-fired pizza ovens, Herb Seasoned Salmon, Drunkard Rib Eye Steak, gourmet hamburgers, fire roasted specialties, a variety of appetizers, steaks, sandwiches and desserts. In addition to the new menu, the pub includes a full-service bar, with dessert cocktails, and, of course, hand-crafted brew.

Brew Meister Fred Brinker has produced five exclusive Boiler Room brews. In addition to a "Brew of the Month," the pub will offer: Golden Ale, a classic pale ale, lightly hopped and bodied, with a dean, crisp taste, refreshing finish. Amber Ale, a malty, amber-colored, pleasantly robust and mildly hopped brew originally touted in Europe as a "Workin' Man's Beer.

The Boiler Room's Stout is a medium-bodied, mildly-hopped "appetite awakener. Stout is lightly carbonated, with delicate flavors from chocolate, coffee and subtle maple. Black stout is touted as the serious beer drinker's beer. Red Lager is a medium-bodied, smooth, dry, copper-colored brew made with caramelized malts giving it a unique flavor and color.

The brews will be offered in 16-ounce and 22-ounce glasses, pitchers, and for those who simply can't decide, Brinker's handiwork will include a "sampler" of all five styles of hand-crafted brew.

The Belle's Brew Meister is a graduate of the prestigious Siebel Institute of Technology, the oldest beer making school in North America. The institute limits its class size to about 90 students each year, educating aspiring brew masters since 1872. Upon graduation from the world-renowned school, Fred became Brew Meister at the well- known Golden Prairie Brewing Company in Chicago. Brinker's plans include crafting three new "batches" of beer each week. That tedious process, from sacked, malted Barley, to cold, freshly brewed beer, begins and ends within the confines of the Colorado Belle Hotel Casino.

The copper brewing and serving tanks visible in the brew pub are measured in "barrel" sizes, with each barrel equal to 31 gallons of beer. The equipment at the Belle includes six serving tanks, each holding 17 "barrels." The beer is brewed in five tanks with a total capacity of about 3,700 gallons. Beer, like cookies, is made in "Batches." At the Boiler Room, one Brew Kettle "Batch" contains 17 barrels, equal to 34 kegs of beer. The monthly capacity of the pub is 12,911 gallons of suds. Over the course of a year, production can reach 154,938 gallons.

In addition to the hand-crafted brews produced by the amazing array of equipment, the Boiler Room serves domestic and imported beer, a host of specialty drinks, wine, and dessert cocktails. The Boiler Room also has a shopping area offering a select line of merchandise. The "Boiler Room Collection" is an exclusive line of high quality apparel and logo merchandise including polo shirts, "T's," sweatshirts, mugs, glassware, ballcaps, and a selection of naturally wrapped, hand-rolled classic cigars, with a variety of gauges and lengths available.

Smoking accessories include cutters, a variety of humidors, ashtrays, storage containers, lighters and more. The Micro-Brewery is open daily from 11:00 a.m.
