Located in one of the resort areas surrounding Lake Tahoe the Cal-Neva offers guest a variety of accommodations ranging from $139.00 to $249.00 a night. Depending on your budget you can book a lower room looking at the forestry surrounding the resort or an upper level room with a panoramic view of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Mountains.
Built in 1926, the log cabin resort became an escape for celebrities and other special guests wishing to have a few peaceful days out of the limelight of the general public. The original lodge burned down in 1937, but was quickly rebuilt using every means possible to re-open it within thirty days.
Referred to as the "Lady of the Lake," the lodge has had many owners throughout the years from reputed mob members to well know celebrities such as Frank Sinatra who built the Celebrity Showroom and a helicopter pad in the 1965 to 1968 era. The Cal-Neva became national headlines after Marilyn Monroe and President John F. Kennedy were accused of having a secret affair at the lodge.
After nearly two decades of deterioration, the property was purchased by a real estate developer from California in 1985, who totally refurbished the resort. The full-destination resort has 200 rooms, cabins, chalets, wedding and honeymoon facilities, an European Health Spa, video arcade, gift shop, quick food restaurant and fine dining restaurant.
The Circle Bar has a glass leaded dome ceiling, the Indian Room a stone fireplace and gold surroundings, the casino has slot and video poker machines, blackjack, craps and roulette.
