History:
Harveys opened as a Saloon and Gambling Hall in 1944, with three slot machines, refreshments and gasoline. Today Harveys has about 2300 slot and video machines, 105 gaming tables, is the largest resort in Lake Tahoe with 740 rooms including 36 suites, a parking garage, 288-seat theater, wedding chapel and 15,000 square feet of convention space. Harvey Gross, the original owner, died in 1983.
Besides Lake Tahoe, Harveys operates Harveys Wagon Wheel Hotel and Casino at 321 Gregory Street in Central City, Colorado (has 118 rooms, 900 slots & 18 tables), Harveys Casino Hotel at 1 Harveys Blvd. in Council Bluffs, Iowa (has 251 rooms, 900 slots & 48 tables), held an interest in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV with Peter Morton.
