Eldorado Hotel Casino

The Eldorado's Grand Plaza showcases a twenty piece Fountain of Fortune crafted from marble and bronze beneath a breath taking painted sunset sky. Classical, Baroque-style fountains with cascading waters create a dramatic setting on the mezzanine level.

Inspired by mythology, the classical, Baroque-style Fountain of Fortune cascades more than fifty feet through the Grand Plaza, located on the mezzanine level. The sculpted pieces include mythical mermen, also known as "tritons", dolphins, fish, cherubs and sea horses. The fountain's center-piece is the God of Fortune standing 17 feet high weighing 2,800 pounds.

The pieces were created by two world renowned artists, Designer Raul Rodriguez and Sculptor Joe Barth. Rodriguez is probably recognized for his award-winning float designs in the annual Tournament of Roses parade. Joe Barth is also the quintessential Mardi Gras float maker.

Don Carano and Jerry Poncia opened the original Eldorado in 1973, on the corner of Fourth and Virginia Streets with 282 rooms, 16 gaming tables, 200 slot machines, a cabaret show room, coffee shop and steak house. Many industry leaders predicted failure because the hotel/casino was on the north end of the railroad tracks rather than on the south end where all the other casinos were located. Now one of Reno's major attractions, the Eldorado is in the heart of downtown.

As principal owner and managing partner of the Eldorado, Don brought his family on board to help with the operation of the hotel and casino. Don and his wife Rhonda, sons Gary, Gene, Gregg and daughter Cindy have each been key players in the success of the Eldorado. They work long hours to see that the hotel/casino operation is above standard at every level.

Don and Rhonda have taken the family business concept one step further by directing their business and creative energies into the development of the Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery. One of California's top wineries, Ferrari-Carano produces more than 80,000 cases of wine annually. Distribution includes all 50 states and seven countries. With numerous awards and the White House among the fine establishments that serve Ferrari-Carano, company success is attributed to Don and Rhonda's hands-on approach to management and marketing.

The Brew Brothers at the Eldorado was voted Reno's "Best Microbrewery" and "Best Beer Selection" in the Reno Gazette-Journal's latest "Best of Reno"poll." The Brew Brothers brews eight distinct beers, including Lucky Lady Lager, Eldorado Extra Pale Honey Ale, Wild Card Wheat Ale, Gold Dollar Pale Ale, Big Dog Ale, Redhead Amber Ale, Double Down Stout, a rotating specialty beer along with a tasty root beer. Eldorado's extensive menu includes appetizers, wood-fired oven pizzas, fresh catch of the day fish, sandwiches, salads, homemade soup du jour, pastas and steaks. During happy hour from 3 pm to 6 pm daily, microbrews were only $1.25, chips and salsa are free, chicken wings $2.50, any pizza $5.00. All prices subject to change.

Upscale downtown shopping is offered in a quaint Victorian courtyard setting in the Grand Plaza, located on the Eldorado skyway to the Silver Legacy just past the Fountain of Fortune. CC Lynn's showcases unique collectibles, gifts and jewelry. Attitudes contemporary fashions for men and women and Says Who? offers logo apparel and souvenirs. Eldorado Expressions, next to the buffet offers logo apparel, newspapers, sundries, souvenirs, wine and spirits.

Gaming action includes 90 table games with Blackjack, craps, roulette, Caribbean Stud, Pai Gow Poker, 2,000 slots, three keno lounges, a full-service Race & Sportsbook. The Stadium Bar features 80 beers from around the world, including micro-brews made on site at their Brew Brothers restaurant micro-brewery.
