The Monte Carlo Resort and Casino was a joint venture between Circus Circus Enterprises, Inc. (now Mandalay Bay) and Mirage Resorts, Inc. The Monte Carlo is located on the "The Strip" between Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue.
The $344 million, 3,002 room resort officially opened June 21,1996, at full occupancy. The resort was booked solid for several months after it opened. During the first few days of its grand opening, people all over the casino were hitting jackpots, and in some cases the video poker machines paid out two $10,000 jackpots within a 24-hour period. When this became known to professional gamblers they hired people to sit at the machines for them while they rested or got some sleep. The overall decor is very simple compared to some of the other resorts on the Strip, but thats what make the Monte Carlo special. Room rates varied from a low of $60 Sunday through Thursday, to around $100 a night for Friday and Saturday night accommodations in standard rooms.
Modeled after the famous Place du Casino in Monte Carlo, Monaco, the casino features fanciful arches, chandeliered domes, marble floors, ornate fountains, gas-lit promenades and a Gothic glass and marble registration area overlooking the lush pool area. The pool area includes an easy river ride and a 4,800-square-foot wave pool which produces radom waves up to 30 inches in height.
Guest rooms feature marble and granite finishes as well as brass fixtures. Upscale mini-suites and player suites are also available.
