"The Flagship Of The Boulder Strip"

The Showboat was purchased by Harrah's - renamed Castaway's

Over 40 years ago, when Boulder Highway was on the outskirts of town, a small hotel casino opened its doors. Little did they know in 1954, they would become "The Flagship of the Boulder Strip." Known for the first gaming property in Las Vegas to start the three B's: Bingo, Bowling, and the ever-so-popular Buffet, the Showboat Hotel Casino and Bowling Center has since become one of the most reputable names in the gaming industry.

The Showboat has come a long way since its beginning in 1954, recently undergoing a $25 million dollar renovation giving the property a colorful, exciting, new look. The casino creates a complete New Orleans style atmosphere with southern mansions, carnival, and Mardi Gras decor, including large stained-glass windows and hand painted murals displayed in many areas. The Showboat also includes a newly remodeled hotel with 453 spacious comfortable rooms, four suites and one hospitality suite. Convention and meeting facilities can host 70 to 1,100 people, a catering staff is available to host banquets. The Showboat recently celebrated the grand opening of the fully-equipped Showboat RV Park located on property and in walking distance to the casino, which includes 84 spaces and a guest services area to cater to visitor needs.

Showboat guests enjoy a wide variety of entertainment and fun. The 1,200 seat Bingo Gardens holds regular bingo from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 a.m. daily featuring special events such as Super Star Bingo guaranteeing payouts of $125,000. Showboat Bingo also features Bonanza Bingo, is home to one of the largest jackpots ever hit in Las Vegas, $96,182. The Bowling Center offers bowling enthusiasts 106 championship lanes, equipped with Brunswick Frameworx, and is home to the Showboat PBA Invitational in March, Senior PBA Invitational in July, and High Roller Amateur Tournaments. The Mardi Gras Room fills the casino and lounge with daily entertainment beginning at 7:00 p.m. and ending well past 5:00 a.m. in the morning, featuring jazz, pop, rock n' roll, and contemporary sounds. 24-hours off fun can be experienced at the Showboat.

Showboat guests also enjoy 80,000 square-feet of casino excitement. Try your luck at Let-It Ride Poker, Caribbean Stud Poker, Pal-Cow, Blackjack, Craps and Roulette. Now offering "Single Deck 21" and "10 times Odds on Craps." In addition to table games, the Showboat offers 1,500 slot and video machines, including Megabucks, and Cool Millions -- where the winner is paid his or her first million instantly! The complex has a Keno Lounge, Race & Sportsbook. The Showboat has added the popular "Wheel of Fortune" progressive reel slot machine, and currently, Showboat is the only casino in Las Vegas to offer the new "Joker 21" table that is played with a regular 52-card deck and the joker.

Showboat guests interested in exciting benefits & privileges -- cash, comps and invitations to special events can join the Big Easy Players Club. The Showboat's Big Easy Players Club is the only club to offer cash and comps on the Boulder Strip. Points for play at any slot, keno or video machine can be accumulated 24-hours a day. It's simple to join and membership is free.

Showboat Hotel, Casino & Bowling Center was recently voted #1 in video poker and finished #2 for best slot payouts in the 1997 Review Journal's Best of Las Vegas Reader's Poll. Showboat was the only casino to earn this combination best performance.

Showboat's New "Joker 21" Table Game

Showboat is the first casino and only property to date to offer this new table game to customers.

"Joker 21" offers more ordinary 21 combinations (first two cards) than regular Twenty-One. It is played with 53 cards per deck (standard 52 cards plus the Joker) and is played like regular Twenty-One, but with added features.

How To Play

A player who is dealt a Joker plus any other card as first two cards, in either order, automatically has an ordinary 21. When a player is dealt a Joker after first two cards, the Joker counts as 1. If a dealers face-up card is a Joker, dealer has an ordinary 21 and if player does not have Blackjack, player should draw additional cards until there is a tie with the dealer or player busts. If a dealers face-down card is a joker, the dealer has an ordinary 21 and for each player position, the dealer will take all busting bets and only one losing nonbusting bet. Multiple decks, when the first two cards are both Jokers, it is a Joker 21 Blackjack, treated and paid just like a regular blackjack. Showboat offers the Joker 21 table with a minimum bet of $3 and maximum bet of $500. For more information about Joker 21, contact the Showboat Hotel at (702) 385-9117.

Bowling: High Roller, Inc. was established in 1981 for the purpose of promoting the largest purses ever in the bowling industry. The first event was in 1982, at Showboat Hotel Casino and Bowling Center in Las Vegas. That inaugural tournament was the beginning of what the bowling industry now refers to as "Megabucks." It is during High Roller Week that the top amateur bowlers in the world gather to compete for the largest purse in the world. High Roller events are staged in Las Vegas, hosted by the Showboat Hotel Casino & Bowling Center, the largest bowling center in the country. High Roller has earned the world-wide reputation of staging the largest Megabucks.

In 1982, 864 entrants pooled a $1,000 entry fee and shared in a purse of $864,000. Since 1982, High Roller has enjoyed tremendous growth that included the staging of 9 separate spin-off events in 1997. Five of those events were nationally televised finals.

Every year since 1987, July High Roller contestants have enjoyed increases in prize money. The 1996 event attracted 1,200 entries and disbursed a record $2.6 million over the 9-day event. In 1996, 5 separate events distributed more than $4.5 million, and attracted over 4,300 contestants!

One of the factors separating High Roller from other tournaments is the totally electric atmosphere! The format provides for elimination "do-or-die" matches and the standing-room-only crowds really get involved as they cheer for their family and friends. With as many as 70 matches taking place at one time, the excitement is like no other event anywhere! The process is repeated every hour until four players advance to the televised finals.

Since its inception, High Roller events have disbursed $33 million in prize money. Thirty-two players have won a prize from between $100,000 and $200,000. In January of 1990, High Roller staged its first spin-off of the July High Roller. The event coincided with the NFL Super Bowl and was named Super Bowl High Roller. The 1997 Super Bowl High Roller was staged in January, and for the 2nd consecutive year filled with 1,960 players, a record Megabuck field! Prize money exceeded $1 million.

High Roller events now include age-specific events for 40 year old amateurs and for bowling seniors, 50 years and over. In the 4th annual Senior Thanksgiving Classic, 1996, records were established for the number of contestants and prizes. The High Roller boasts a mail list of 35,000 tournament bowlers nationwide. The High Roller advertising campaign relies mainly on direct mail and print advertising in fifty-five bowling periodicals. High Roller is a co-sponsor of the Brunswick World Team Challenge, a 22-week television series on Prime Network.

In 1997, High Roller was assisted promotionally by the corporate sponsorship of Brunswick, Coca-Cola, Munsingwear, Pro-Sports Systems and Allstate Auto Rental.
