Foxwoods Resort Casino

When the Foxwoods first opened its doors in February 1992, it started out as a small bingo parlor because none of the banks would give them a loan. Around forty financial institutions in all turned them down. They finally found a private investment firm willing to back them up. Today the Foxwoods has the highest gross casino revenues in the world. During the fiscal year of July 1, 1999 and June 30, 2000 the Foxwoods gross revenues on their slot and video machine operations alone totaled over nine billion two-hundred thirteen million dollars. They paid the state of Connecticut over one hundred eighty-nine million dollars in taxes. The Pequot tribe does not have to report their table gaming revenues to the state or pay taxes on those revenues. These are official figures, not our estimates!

Foxwoods Resort Casino complex consists of five casinos with over 300,000-square-feet of gaming space, 5,842 slot machines, 370 gaming tables, a 3,000 seat high stakes bingo parlor with $1 million jackpots, a 200 seat Sportsbook, a keno lounge and the popular pull-tabs. Table games include: Baccarat, min-Baccarat, Big Six Wheels, Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, Craps, Pai Gow, Pai Gow Tiles, Red Dog, Roulette and a number of novelty games. One of the casinos is non-smoking. A special high roller room with ten gaming tables will be constructed on the twenty-fifth floor of the Grand Pequot Tower. The high-roller room is expected to open during December 2000 . The room will only be available to guest with multi-million dollar bankrolls.

Run by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, the Pequot made an agreement with the state to only allow one other casino operation in the state, the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville. Both casinos pay the state of Connecticut twenty-percent of their slot machine profits which totaled over three-hundred eighteen million dollars this past fiscal year.

The Foxwood complex has four hotels, the Grand Pequot Tower with 800 guest rooms and suites; Great Cedar Hotel 312 rooms and suites, a health spa and heated pool; Two Trees Inn with 280 rooms and suites, a pool and Fitness room; the Mystic Hilton. Randall's Ordinary is an 18th century-style Inn in North Stonington, CT for weddings.

All total there are 23 shopping areas, 24 food and beverage outlets, a Cinedrome 360 theater, 85,000 square- foot Mashantucket Pequot museum, a Fox Grand Theater with Las Vegas style entertainment, a Turbo Ride, Fox video Arcade, gift shops, over 1,400 rooms, suites and villas ranging in price from $140.00 to $525.00 a night unless you book a charter rate or receive a players discount.

Northbound visitors: take Route 95 North to Route 395 North, Route 2A East, or Route 95 North to Exit 92 and Route 2 West. Southbound visitors, Route 95 South to Exit 92, Route 2 West, or take Route 395 South, Route 164 East and Route 2 East.

The Mashantucket Pequots Tribal symbol is a reflection of its past and an enduring sign of its hope for the future. Framed against a clear sky, the lone tree on a prominent knoll represents Mashantucket, the "much- wooded land" where the Pequots hunted and kept alive their identity as independent people. Displayed on the knoll is the sign of Robin Cassasinnamon, the Mashantucket Pequot's first leader following the massacre at Mystic Fort in 1637. The fox stands as a reminder that the Pequots are known as "the fox people."

Food prices are high at the Foxwoods. Expect a simple snack in the food court for two to run between $12 and $15. A full meal without extras $30 to $70 per couple. You won't find the bargains Las Vegas or Atlantic City offers guests.
