When the majestic "Casino Queen" first docked on the East St. Louis, Illinois riverfront in June 1993, it marked the beginning of the rebirth of this struggling community and the creation of one of the most popular entertainment attractions in the Midwest. The Casino Queen has been a tremendous success story for the gaming industry.
Mayor Gordon Bush called the Casino Queen "the catalyst for the future" of East St. Louis. When many experts said it couldn't be done the Casino Queen defied the odds by setting innumerable attendance and gaming records in the State of Illinois while providing jobs for more than 1,200 people -- the majority from the East St. Louis area. The Casino Queen Community Development Foundation, a charitable organization set up by the riverboat's owners also provides incentive loans for new businesses, grants and donations to worthy causes in the region.
The Casino Queen is a four-story high replica of a 19th-century side wheeler 450 feet long, 72 feet wide, with two 54 feet tall smoke stacks," and a 50 foot high neon paddlewheel which brings with it much of the romance of the Mississippi River and provides the most spectacular panoramic view of the St. Louis skyline.
More than four million visitors passed through the Casino Queen's turnstiles during 1996 and over 16.5 million since it opened June 1993. The Casino Queen is one of St. Louis' top tourist attractions topping attendance numbers of the St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Rams and the St. Louis Cardinals combined.
Known for its signature slogan "The Loosest Slots Period," The Casino Queen provides the most liberal slot payouts and some of the largest jackpots in the region. With a reputation for big winners and exceptional customer service, the Queen has always been the local favorite which is proven by the "Queen of Clubs" slot club that boasts more than 150,000 members in the first few years of operation.
For patrons who prefer the excitement of live gaming tables, the Casino Queen offers membership in "The Queen's Table," a club designed to reward frequent table game players. Club memberships are free.
The first Deck of the Queen has live gaming tables, slot and video poker machines. Second Deck, smoke free live gaming tables, slot and video poker machines. Third Deck, live gaming tables, slot and Video Poker machines. Fourth Deck an open air Observation Lounge with snack and beverage bars. The Fourth Deck is available for private parties, meetings, special events for up to 300 guest. Beverage bars are located throughout the vessel.
Their gaming area has 28,000-sq.-feet with a total of 1,011 slot & video poker machines -- 771 reel machines, 222 video poker and 18 keno machines from five cents to $25.00. Gaming tables, 34 Blackjack, 4 Caribbean Stud, 6 Craps tables, 4 Roulette Wheels, 2 mini-Baccarat and two Let It Ride. Table limits range from $2.00 to $2,000.
The Queen sails eleven times a day at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m., 9 p.m., 11 p.m., 1 a.m., 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. seven days a week year-round. Boarding time is one-half hour before cruise time. A $2.00 fee is charged. Cruise speeds range from 6 to 12 miles per hour. The ship has seating for 3,000 passengers and a crew of 45. The queen weights 7.1 million pounds (3,500 tons) with a full load 5,000 tons of steel in just the hull, sports 1,000 gallons of paint, has two million feet of electric cable and is operated by Coast Guard licensed and certified crew members.
The land-based Guest Pavilion has over 20 acres of secured, well-lit free parking and valet parking. The Queens Courtyard Buffet serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. The Royal Clubhouse Sports Bar & Grill has 26 televisions with events from around the country, a large sports photograph collection, live music and stage entertainment.
A 150-room hotel opened during the fall of 1999. The RV Park was double from its 92 spaces to 184 and a 4000-seat outdoor amphitheater was constructed in 1999.
The Casino Queen is located adjacent to all four of the East-West Interstate Highways that traverse St. Louis, IL. Space is available for loading and unloading motor coaches and other large vehicles.
The light-rail MetroLink system provides service to and from the St. Louis International Airport. Downtown is about 5 minutes from the Casino Queen.
