Equally unique is the festive face - a series of beautiful murals depicting the happy street scenes of the French Quarter on what previously had been the white, unadorned facade of the parking garage on Pacific Avenue. It took $4 million, eight artists from New York, 100 local craftsmen and five months of exacting and detailed work to complete this fabulous facelift.
With just one look at the buildings murals, you immediately feel the rhythms and music of Bourbon Street. On Pacific Ave., the murals are enhanced by balconies with wrought iron railing, like those that encircle many a French Quarter buildings. Highlighting the street scenes are foliage, lights and 25 lifelike mannequins in Mardi Gras attire on the balconies.
The entire Showboat exterior became an instant Atlantic City landmark.
The walkways in the Showboat are decorated with attractive Mardi Gras murals.
The Pacific Avenue side of the building hosts a number of attractive marionette's on the upper levels of the building. A 15 foot tall, multi-color, larger-than-life swan greets visitors at the front entrance to the Showboat. The swan is traditionally the 1st float in New Orleans' world-famed Mardi Gras Parade.
The Showboat swan, made of fiberglass and steel, has hundreds of colored lights that flicker at night with a dazzling effect. The swan was constructed in Arizona and shipped in three trucks for assembly at the Showboat.
