As you approach the Mandalay Bay from the Strip your first impression is that the building is nothing more than a tall structure with gold and white color tones. Your opinion changes quickly as you enter the 60-acre property and become surrounded with well groomed tropical gardens and a walkway leading to the main building. Shortly after passing through the entrance way (center photo) your attention is drawn to the several waterfalls and structure containing three elephants (right photo).

Inside, the Mandalay Bay is just as attractive and well laid out making it simple to find what your looking for. The lower level is the "Beach Level" with seven large and small pools, the Lazy River and a stage for entertainment. Some of the amenities include: the Surf Shop, Pearl Moon Boutique, junglejuice spirits, Tropical Gifts and Stuff, an Ice Cream Shop, travel and car rental desks. The lower level has a spa and fitness center, bungalows, a wedding chapel, conference center and is shared with the Four Seasons.

From the parking garage and valet entrance is the Trattoia Del Lupo and China Grill to the right; rumjungle, Poker Room, Race and Sports Book and Turf Club Bar to the left. Straight ahead is the Coral Reef Lounge and casino entrance. To the right of the China Grill you'll find the Citizens Mens Wear, Portfolio Women's Wear, Roma Cafe and the Business Center. Heading back towards the casino is the Shanghai Lilly, Aureole, Bay Side Buffet, Raffles Cafe, The Noodle Shop and Baccarat Room. By the main elevators a news stand, The Wave Logo Shop, Four Seasons elevator, Mandalay Bay VIP check-in, Mandalay Bay The Store and a registration desk.

Heading towards the casino you'll find the Orchard Lounge, Bali Trading Center, the Art Gallery, Bombay Cigar Company and Treasures of Mandalay Bay. Adjacent to the Tram entrance from the Excalibur is the Club Mandalay and House of Blues. Around the corner is the Box Office and an exit with a walkway that takes you to the Luxor. In the middle of the casino is the Island Lounge.

Casino action - 135,000-square-feet of 24-hour gaming with over 2,400 slot and video machines, 122 gaming tables, a Baccarat Room and Poker Room, Race and Sports Book with 17 screens and 300 seats.

The House of Blues continuously changes its nightly entertainment schedule. While the shows began at 8 p.m., ticket prices have varied from $18.00 to $68.00. Box Office (702) 632-7600 or Ticketmaster (702) 474-4000 (photo of HOB wall).

Entertainment is also available in the 12,000-seat Mandalay Bay Events Center and 1,700-seat Mandalay Bay Theatre. Ticket prices vary by who's appearing. In the Events Center, past ticket performance prices for Ricky Martin sold for $35.00 to $150.00, The Three Tenors $95.00 to $900.00

Dining:

Aureolu features New York style dishes created by Chef Palmer. Bay Side Buffet serves breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, a view of the water garden. Border Grill is located by the Mandalay Beach specializing in Mexican entries. China Grill offers world class cuisine. Rock Lobster over 50 appetizers from soups to sandwiches and lobster in a Rock 'N Roll setting. House of Blues specializes in Southern favorites. Raffles Cafe, a 24-hour restaurant offers views of the beach area. Red Square Moscow vodka and caviar. rumjungle Caribbean entries and evening music. Shanghai Lilly has Cantonese and Szechwan specialties. The Noodle Shop, Cantonese and Mandarin noodle items, open 24-hours. Trattoria del Lupo, Italian dishes.

Mandalay Bay's 11-acre beach has seven different sized swimming pools, an entertainment stage, a lazy river ride, nine private bungalows, sixteen cabanas, beachside lounges, food and refreshments. A number of body treatments are offered in the 30-000-square-foot spa from Swedish massages to body wraps and facials.

Shopping includes: Bali Trading Company, South Seas treasures. Bombay Cigar Company, cigars and accessories. Cuzzens fine suites for men. El Portal Collections, travel items and men's and women's accessories. The Enchanted Flora, fresh flowers. Galerie Renaissance, fine art and sculptors. junglejuice spirits, alcoholic beverages and gift items. Mandalay Bay The Store, logo items and casual wear. Pearl Moon Boutique, beachwear. Portfolio, women's clothing and shoes. Rangoon News Bureau, newspapers, magazines and snacks. Tropical Gifts & Stuff, South Sea clothing attire. The Wave, golf items.

Accommodations: 3,309-rooms including 500 suites. Standard rooms are 500-square-feet with master size bathrooms with separate soaking tubs and showers, make-up mirrors and hair dryers. Amenities include irons and ironing boards, separate closets, 27" TVs, two phone lines with dataports and oversize beds. Suites vary in size from 690 to 6,670-square-feet and offer guests 13 different floor plans to chose from. The 34th floor has House of Blues themed rooms and suites, decorated with Gothic, Moroccan and East Indian elements.

Additional accommodations: The five-star AAA rated Four Seasons has 424 rooms, including 86 suites in the Mandalay Bay. The rooms can only be accessed by using the four - Four Season elevators. Separate entrances and valet services are offered to Four Season guest as well as check-in and check-out registration desks. Rooms occupy five floors of the Mandalay Bay Tower. The spacious rooms have large bathrooms with separate showers and tubs, private bars, coffee makers and toasters to use for the bread delivered to the room.

A two-story building in the registration area houses two restaurants, the First Floor Grill and the Veranda Cafe. Four Season guests also have a separate pool with cabanas and a spa.
