FUN FACTS Just the Facts of the World's Largest Hotel/Casino

"The sky's the limit" best describes the sense of purpose behind the development of the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino, which has now been open since Dec. 18, 1993. The MGM Grand represents a remarkable combination of technical ingenuity, modern eco-sensitive engineering, and a true sense of fantasy with lavish attention to detail.

Here are just a few facts of size and scope to better illustrate this Las Vegas mega-gaming entertainment resort operation:

Monty Hall's Nightmare -- 18,000 Doors! -- "Door number one, door number two or door number three..." Hardly. This mammoth hotel has enough doors to fit more than 1,600 three bedroom homes.

Stack 'Em Up, -- If all 7,778 beds inside the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino were stacked on top, the pile would stand 12,963 feet tall -- more than 10 times as tall as the 1,250-foot Empire State Building -- and extend more than two miles into the air.

"Anyone Need A Lift?" -- The hotel is certainly the place for the upwardly mobile, with 93 elevators. The 30-story central elevator core is similar in size to a major downtown skyscraper.

What A Cool Place! -- So that guests can beat the heat, 18,000 tons of air-conditioning equipment is used, enough to cool off a small town of almost 5,500 homes.

Play Ball! -- The casino areas of the MGM Grand are the size of four football fields, approximately 171,500 square-feet.

Sweet Dreams -- It would take 13 years and eight months for one person to sleep in every room in the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino.

Squeaky Clean -- The MGM Grand Hotel/Casino launders more than 29 million pounds of sheets annually for its guests in the largest privately owned laundry in Nevada. It takes an average of 22 miles of sheets each day to freshen the beds in the 5,005-room hotel.

No Chicken Little -- MGM Grand chefs crack open more than 18 million eggs, pour 292,000 pounds of coffee, and serve nearly 4.4 million donuts to breakfast patrons each year. The hotel prepares approximately 30,000 meals per day.

These Boots Were Made For Walking -- Up to 160,000 feet tread across the carpets of the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino each day. On average, the MGM Grand hosts 50,000 to 80,000 visitors per day -- in addition to regular guests staying at the hotel.

High Stakes -- There are approximately 771,700 gambling chips in the MGM Grand Hotel/ Casino -- and if you stacked up every chip, they would stretch over 1.5 miles into the sky. In addition, there are more than 800 decks of cards being shuffled at any given moment throughout the casino areas of the property. The MGM Grand also houses approximately 3,700 slot machines.

Longest Yard Pass -- The length from the start of the table game areas at the Lion entrance to the beginning of Studio Walk is 440 yards, approximately 4.5 football fields.
