The $550 million Stratosphere Hotel Casino and entertainment complex boasts the tallest free-standing observation tower in the United States. The tower, which is more than twice as tall as any other building in Las Vegas, soars 1,149 feet in the air. Its the tallest building west of the Mississippi.
The main hotel/casino area occupies a 354,000 square-foot building at the base of the tower; a 194,000 square-foot first level containing a 100,000 square foot casino; and a 160,000 square foot entertainment and retail complex.
The 12-story pod atop the tower begins at the 775-foot level and features the Pepsi-Cola Observation Deck (indoor and outdoor); the Let It Ride High Roller, the world's highest roller coaster; the Big Shot, the world's highest thrill ride; a 360-seat revolving restaurant and a 220-seat cocktail lounge.
Guests are whisked from the ground level to the observation decks in 30 seconds by high speed double deck elevators which travel 1,800 feet per minute.
Thrill-seekers can joy a ride more than 100 stories above the ground on two of the world's highest rides -- the Let It Ride High Roller roller coaster and the Big Shot, which shoots riders 160 feet into the air and allows them to experience G forces of up to four and fewer than zero.
Rooms: The hotel has approximately 1,500 suites and guestrooms. The 120 suites for premium guests plus beautifully appointed "High Roller" suites provide first-class comfort and amenities. Most rooms feature either one king or two queen size beds.
Casino: The brightly-colored casino offers approximately 100,000 square feet of gaming space with 2,494 slot machines, 60 gaming tables and a keno lounge. All of the Stratosphere's dollar slot machines are programmed to return at least 98%. When maximum coins are played in the 120 clearly marked quarter video poker machines and properly played, the machines will return over 100%. Blackjack machines return 99.5% if properly played and craps players can win up to 100 times the odds. A high limit room with slot machines ranging from $5 to $100 in the High Limit Slot Pavilion provides champagne service, including hors d'oeuvres to its players in the Pavilion's exclusive lounge, and private restrooms for the convenience of the players.

Big Sky Steak House: Enjoy mouth-watering steak, tender prime rib, flavorful fish or a delicious fixed price menu called "The Deast" in a rustic Old West setting complete with chuck wagons, 3-D scenery, log hand rails and wooden floors. The Feast includes BBQ pork ribs, beef brisket, honey-fried chicken, bottomless salad, corn muffins, baked beans, country coleslaw, and ranch fries. Ferraro's Restaurant: For those who insist on the finest in food, surroundings and service. Ferraro's has been honored with the American Academy of Restaurant and Hospitality Sciences' "5 Star Diamond Award," establishing it as one of the top ten Italian restaurants in the United States. Its moderately-priced menu offers a tempting assortment of popular traditional Italian specialties. Reservations suggested. Open for dinner 5:00 p.m. through midnight seven days a week. Roxy's Diner: Turn back the hands of time in the 50's-style diner serving equal portions of fun and good ol' American cooking. Enjoy thick, cold milkshakes served in tall frosty glasses, sandwiches, burgers and a selection of blue plate specials. Open for lunch and dinner 11:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday.
Sister's Coffee Shop: For casual dining with Cajun flair, sit back and relax in comfy booths surrounded by greenery, rock and hard wood floors. Choose from an eclectic menu of crisp salads, appetizers, pastas, sandwiches, steaks and more Breakfast served around the clock. Open 24-hours. Closed every other Thursday from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.
Stratosphere Buffet: Experience a trip around the world in the World's Fair-themed buffet featuring a carving station, Asian wok station, rotisserie station and an extensive dessert bar. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast 8:00 am. to 11:00 a.m., lunch 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., dinner 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Top of the World: Sizzling steaks, fresh fish, lobster and more are served in this comfortable, yet elegant restaurant 833 feet it the air. American Superstars:- A Rock & Roll Celebrity Tribute Extravaganza, featuring such celebrity impersonators as Madonna, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Michael Jackson, Gloria Esterfan, Charlie Daniels. Viva Las Vegas: An afternoon classic Las Vegas-style revue offering a combination of lively dancing, show stopping singing, hysterical comedy, amazing magic and exciting specialty acts. L'Isles Bar: tropical-themed lounge showcases single or duo entertainers performing Caribbean, reggae and pop music 9:00 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday (Dark Monday).
Shopping - Stratosphere's forty restaurants and shops are located in the Tower Shops on the second level. To reach them take the escalator in the middle of the casino. Shoppers will enjoy walking through street scenes depicting Paris, Hong Kong and New York City. A state-of-the-art video arcade is located near the top of the escalator.
History - Ground breaking of the Stratosphere occurred on November 5, 1991. The tower's top spire was lowered into place by helicopter November 4, 1995, signifying the towers structural completion. The 12-story structure resting at the top of the tower legs is called the "pod" and begins at the 775-foot level. Four high-speed double-deck elevators travel as fast as 1,800 feet-per-minute, making the trip up the tower to the observation decks in 30 seconds.
Stratosphere's Tower's Pepsi-Cola Observation Deck (indoor and outdoor) is located on floors 108 and 109. Open from 9 am to 1 am Sunday through Thursday, 9 am to 2 am Friday, Saturday and holidays. Ticket prices to the top of the tower are $5 for adults and teenagers; $4 for children ages 4 to 12; Senior Citizens 55 and over, or military with I.D., and Nevada residents with I.D., $4. Children three and under are free.
Value-added Tower & Ride Passes: $8.00 for Tower admission plus one ride, $9.00 for a two-ride pass, $12.00 for tower admission plus two rides, $20.00 for an all-day Tower admission and rides. Thrill rides
The Big Shot is a state-of-the-art ride that shoots fun-lovers 160 feet into the air before letting riders experience zero-gravity before they free-fall back down to the launching pad.
High Roller: Don't miss the ride of a lifetime on the High Roller, the world's highest roller coaster. Be prepared to make two clockwise rotations, bank sharply at 32-degree angles, and travel at speeds up to 35 miles per hour. Hours, 10 a.m. - midnight Sunday through Thursday; 10 a.m. - 1 a.m. Friday & Saturday. $5 per ride. Minimum 48 inches for all rides. High Roller, Floor 112; Big Shot, Floor 113. Tickets may be purchased at any ticketing location throughout the casino and on the observation deck.
Of the 12 levels comprising the pod, levels one, two, five, ten and eleven are non-public areas, housing kitchen, mechanical and other crucial tower operational facilities.
Level three has six function rooms at the 809-foot level offering stunning views. At an average of 1,000 square-feet, the rooms are available for wedding receptions, sit-down dinners, buffets, stand-up cocktail receptions and more.
The Twilight Room offers a view of the famous Las Vegas Strip; the Sunset Room a panoramic view west to the mountains; the Horizon Room looks out over downtown and Sunrise Mountain to the east. Each room has an in-wall amplifier. Two rooms have three beam video display with ceiling mounted PC video interface capability and ceiling mounted cameras; one room contains two 35" televisions and one VCR. Level Eight is the Pepsi-Cola Observation Deck (indoor) at 857 feet. Snacks are available, as well as items from Stratosphere's two logo shops. The two thrill rides atop Stratosphere Tower are reached from the queuing area on Level Eight.
Level Nine is the Pepsi-Cola Observation Deck (outdoor) at 869 feet, offers a close-up view of the Let It Ride High Roller roller coaster and Big Shot thrill ride in action.
Level Twelve, at 909 feet is accessible only to those who have purchased ride tickets. Thirty-six riders in nine four-passenger cars zoom around the pod on 865 feet of track, banking sharply at 32 degree angles, reaching speeds of 30 miles per hour. The Let It Ride High Roller can accommodate 700 riders per hour.
Just above the Let It Ride High Roller stands the Big Shot, a breathtaking ride for the hardiest of thrill seekers. The Big Shot thrusts 16 passengers 160 feet in the air along a 228-foot spire at the top of the tower. Traveling at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour, riders will experience up to four G's as they reach the top and feel negative G's on the way down. The only ride in the world that shoots straight up. Stratosphere's Big Shot is one of only three such prototype rides in existence. Rides operate from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. Friday, Saturday and holidays. Tickets are $5.00 for each ride. A minimum height of 48 inches is required for each ride. Prices subject to change.
The multi-level parking garage holds over 4,000 cars. No charge for parking. The Tower weighs approximately 100 million pounds. Almost 290 miles of rebar was used in Tower construction. This is the approximate distance from Los Angeles to San Francisco, or from New York to North Carolina. The steel used in construction weighs more than 1,600 tons. Nearly one-half mile of chase light tracks carrying 88,000 LED lights are located along the tracks of the Let It Ride High Roller roller coaster.
